The All-new 2011 Infiniti QX56

The redesigned 2011 Infiniti QX has created a lot of buzz here at Infiniti MA of Norwood.  We are also happy to hear that it is also getting rave reviews from the community of automotive critics.  With a completely revamped body and numerous exciting features, the sky is the limit for this luxurious and artistic piece of machinery.  If you haven’t had the chance to see it or take one for a test drive, it is certainly a breathtaking experience.  We hope to see all of you here on the automile soon!

I recently had the chance to test drive the 2011 Infiniti QX in Louisville, Kentucky, and oh man, was it a sweet ride. This QX has all the features that you’d expect from a luxury Infiniti SUV (which we’ll get to in a bit), but the first thing that strikes you is the car’s good looks. It’s an attractive ride by any standards. The QX has clean lines, a big-but-not-bulky frame and an executive jet-like interior that makes you want to grab a pipe and a smoking jacket and just lounge inside for a while.

The 2011 Infiniti QX drives as smooth as it looks. Newly designed to reduce noise and vibration, the QX is roomy, comfy and quiet. I was riding with The Bachelor Guy, and he said that the car was like a living room on wheels. This is true. In fact, the ride is so comfortable that it’s easy to take turns a little quicker and speed a bit more. Maybe that’s why The Bachelor Guy and I got pulled over twice. I thought the sharp turn that he made was worse than my 71 MPH on a Kentucky highway, but the state troopers that pulled us over thought otherwise. The Bachelor Guy got off with a warning and I earned myself a “speeding” ticket.

Aside from the exterior looks and interior comforts, the QX has a host of other welcomed features:

I’ve always been impressed by interior design, comfort and the level of sophistication of the instrumentation in vehicles. First settling into the QX it was obvious they tailored this new SUV for people exactly like me.

The cockpit was every bit as elaborate as that of our new Cirrus airplane, but much more spacious and, yes, comfortable. Acceleration was just as exhilarating as any take-off. I hit the pedal with gusto as we entered the expressway after leaving our staging point and my passenger said I should have warned him so he could protect his neck from the snap 400 horsepower and 413 lb ft of torque can provide.

Even with such undeniable power gas mileage has been improved over previous models and is respectable in all comparisons with other full-size non-hybrid SUVs (EPA rated at 20 highway and 14 city). Since this vehicle provided literally everything I would be looking for in an SUV my first question was an obvious given the times of uncertain fuel prices and availabilities – would a hybrid be on the immediate horizon.

The outgoing Infiniti QX56 was a vehicle that never made much sense to us. After all, you could get almost all of its equipment—save a few electronic trinkets—on the otherwise identical Nissan Armada, and you’d save thousands in the process. But the QX has been redesigned for 2011, migrating to a platform shared with the Nissan Patrol SUV, a Toyota Land Cruiser competitor in the rest of the world. The result is a machine more perfectly suited to its primary mission: ferrying well-off families to and from the vacation house, mall, and celebrity-chef restaurants that serve microhydrogenated candied aardvark liver.

The architecture remains body-on-frame, but you’d never know it from the smooth ride and refined personality of the new QX. Whereas the old Titan-based QX56 was a truckish brute with yesteryear interior tech and a rough-around-the-edges persona, the 2011 version is bristling with up-to-the-minute electronics and a suave character that matches its sleek new exterior.
