Bruins Draft Pick C Tyler Seguin
The Boston Bruins have been very busy this offseason, and seem to have been successful in plugging some of the holes that plagued them during their historical collapse in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Philadelphia Flyers. After the losses of David Krejci and Marco Sturm during that series, the lack of scoring depth was a glaring problem. So far, although it is still relatively early in the offseason, the Bruins have addressed this problem via the draft, as well as through trade.
When looking to add instant offense, it always helps to have a surefire talent fall into your lap at second overall. With this pick, which was acquired from Toronto for Phil Kessel before last season, the Bruins selected 18-year old center Tyler Seguin from the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL. Seguin, who is expected to contribute immediately, has been often compared to Detroit Red wings Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman. Seguin tied for the lead in OHL scoring with 1st pick Taylor Hall with 106 points. [click to continue…]

Jake & Joes
The two of us stare up at the newly built restaurant from the parking lot at Jake & Joes in Norwood, located conveniently right off the Auto Mile. I had first saw this new restaurant when I was taking my daily drive to work. Working on the Auto Mile has its perks, car central, plenty of restaurants, and more. The manager of Jake & Joes entered our dealership and handed out invitations that offered a free appetizer, four free entrées, and free drinks. So, needless to say, I couldn’t turn down a free meal! We arrive at Jake & Joes Wednesday night for their grand opening. The parking lot is packed, so we think, first night of an opening usually leads to some chaos in service.
However, immediately when we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with a warm hello and seated. The walk over to our table featured a walk through historical sports moments highlighting the best in Boston sports with Memorabilia from the Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, and the Bruins. To compliment the sports feel they feature 9 TV’s on each side of the bar (1 monster 50 inch TV!) They have plenty of TV’s dispersed throughout the restaurant to ensure you don’t miss a beat in the Boston sports world. With it being a sports bar it surprisingly wasn’t as loud as your typical bar setting, which was a plus for conducting conversation!
Onto the food! My fiancé and I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla to start and for the Main Event we ordered the Chicken Under The Brick (Joe’s Way) and The BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. Our waitress Jessica was very responsive, witty, and friendly. She brought over our drinks in a flash and within 10 mins (expected time) we had our Quesadillas arrive. The appearance was mouth watering…

Red Sox CF Mike Cameron
Despite the fact that the Boston Red Sox seem to be dropping like flies, they remain just 2 games behind the hated Yankees for first place in the American League East. After today’s game at the Giants, the Red Sox head home to face the Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles. They will be happy to get out of San Francisco alive at this point.
In what can be described simply as a freak injury, second baseman Dustin Pedroia could be lost for up to two months after breaking his foot when he fouled a ball off of it in Friday night’s game. Pedroia is an irreplaceable piece of both the offensive and defensive picture, and will be sorely missed. Hopefully the Sox can tread water with Bill Hall at second, who has been below average at best as an outfielder. Here’s to hoping he doesn’t butcher too many double-play balls in the next few weeks. Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz
Red Sox P Clay Buchholz is finally starting to live up to the hype that comes with being a former top prospect in the Red Sox system. Following last nights 6-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, Buchholz is currently 9-4 with a 2.67 ERA in 13 starts. 8 of those games have been Quality Starts (6 IP and 3 ER or less) and he also has a complete game shut out vs. the Baltimore Orioles.
Buchholz has stepped up in a major way with Sox ace Josh Beckett on the disabled list. Granted, while his last few starts haven’t exactly been against the juggernauts of Major League Baseball, (Arizona, Cleveland, Baltimore, Kansas City), he does hold victories over 5 American League teams with winning records – Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Detroit, the L.A. Angels, and Toronto. [click to continue…]

Celtics SG Ray Allen
The Celtics accomplished what they had hoped to do on their trip to the Staples Center in Los Angeles – manage a split in their first two games with a 103-94 victory over the Lakers in Game 2. As a road team in a 2-3-2 best of seven format, taking at least one of these games is of optimum importance. As the series heads back to Boston, the hopes for an 18th title that had looked bleak after a shoddy Game 1 performance are more than just a dream.
Backed by a record setting performance by Ray Allen, (8 3-pointers in a Finals game) and a triple double from Rajon Rondo (19-12-10), the Celtics were able to steal home-court advantage from the Lakers. Allen’s sharpshooting immediately conjured up memories of Michael Jordan’s performance in Game 1 of the 1992 Finals, in which he sank 6 of 6 3-pointers in the first half against the Portland Trailblazers

Red Sox DH David Ortiz
With last night’s 2-0 win at the Tampa Bay Rays, the Boston Red Sox continued their hot streak. Over the last 12 games, the Red Sox have gone on an 8-4 run against some of the best teams in Major League Baseball. Despite losing their series at Detroit May 14-16, they have split a two game set at the New York Yankees, beat the Minnesota Twins in a two-game sweep, taken 2 of 33 from the defending NL Champion Philadelphia Phillies, and now taken two of the first 3 at Tampa, which at point this season has looked unbeatable.
With that being stated, the Red Sox are still 6.5 games in back of Tampa, but are only 3 games behind the Yankees in the loss column for the early Wild Card lead. Despite all the inconsistency that has plagued the club up until this point, the ship seems to be righting itself, as David Ortiz has awaken from a comatose April to post a .359 batting average, 8 home runs and 21 RBI in the month of May. It is needless to say that the 2009-10 Boston Bruins experienced a strange odyssey. Much was expected from them coming into the season after finishing at the East’s top see the previous season. However, they traded top goal scorer Phil Kessel to the Toronto Maple Leafs for 2 1st-round draft picks. The loss of Kessel was to be made up for by the return of Marco Sturm from injury. The MLB Season is just about a quarter finished, and one has to begin to wonder if the Bosto
n Red Sox team that we are currently seeing is capable of improvement. There is not just one problem to point out when referring to the team’s early failures. If they cannot hit one night, the offense could score 9 runs the next but still lose. No lead is safe enough for the bullpen, and the apparent improvement of the defense hasn’t come as advertised. Despite the inconsistent nature of their play, there are a few things that remain constant: [click to continue…]

Patriots #1 Pick Devin McCourty
Coming into the 2010 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots had a plethora of holes to fill. Armed with 4 picks in the first 2 rounds, the Patriots had the ammunition to fill their gaps, as well as the flexibility to move up and down the draft board in order to maximize the value of their selections. Although they did not acquire an elite pass rusher, or upgrade the running back position, there is a lot to be excited about, as they have upgraded in many areas.
